IMC wint 2e prijs Slimme en Gezonde Stad

Op 27 november heeft de subsidie aanvraag van onze partner IMC de tweede prijs gewonnen tijdens de door het Ministerie voor Infrastructuur en Milieu georganiseerde landelijke finalebijeenkomst van het nationale programma Slimme en Gezonde Stad. Aan het door IMC opgezette project 100% elektrisch slim stads en wijkvervoer wordt deel genomen door Clean Tech Delta (Gemeente Rotterdam), Riederborgh, Nissan Nederland en de Wijkbus Rotterdam. De komende maanden wordt het project idee verder gerealiseerd. Onderdeel van de prijs is dat Harry Geerlings, professor Governance of Sustainable Mobility van de Erasmus Universiteit het gedachtengoed van het project verder in Nederland onder de aandacht zal brengen van stakeholders.

The European Week for Waste Reduction

The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) is an initiative aiming to promote the implementation of awareness-raising actions about sustainable resource and waste management during a single week.

It encourages a wide range of audiences (public authorities, private companies, civil society as well as citizens themselves) to get involved.

The next edition of the event will be held under the patronage of the European parliament.

In cooperation with the ministery of Infrastructure and Environment, Milieu Centraal organizes from 21 till 29 november 2015 in the Netherlands this event. Companies, governmental institutions, schools, NGO's and civilians are invited to join.

Monday 23 november during the conference 'Van Afval naar Grondstof Buitenshuis' the nominees for the award will be presented. They will be showed as examples in the action program VANG Buitenshuis en placed on the websites www.duurzaamdoen.nl and www.pluk.nl.

ENERGIEDEBAT

Zonnepanelen op het dak, windparken op zee, gas uit koeienmest en GFT en elektrische auto’s in de straat. Door de energietransitie veranderen de vraag naar en het aanbod van energie constant. Aan netwerkbedrijven de schone taak om Nederland klaar te maken voor een duurzame, veilige en betaalbare toekomst. Zijn ze hier wel op voorbereid?

Tijdens de dertiende editie van het FD Energiedebat op woensdag 11 november in het Zuiderstrandtheater in Den Haag, waar Dutch Waste Management aan deelneemt, staat de veranderende rol van de netbeheerders centraal. Dat zij een cruciale rol spelen om de energietransitie te laten slagen, daar is iedereen het over eens. Maar over de invulling daarvan bestaat veel onenigheid.

Wat is de toekomstige rol van de netwerkbedrijven? Moeten ze slechts de markt faciliteren óf proactief bijdragen aan de energietransitie? Moeten ze dure smart grids aanleggen om nieuwe toepassingen in te passen? Of moeten de netbeheerders investeringen zo lang mogelijk uitstellen zoals de wet van hen verlangt?

Hoe ontwikkelt de energiemarkt zich de komende vijf jaar eigenlijk en welke keuzes moeten netwerkbedrijven maken? Wat moeten ze doen om het energieakkoord mogelijk te maken? En wat is de rol van Europa? Is de toekomst van de transitie afhankelijk van een pan-Europese smart grid?

Het FD Energiedebat gaat op zoek naar antwoorden op deze en andere vragen. Rob Steine en Peet de Bruijn van Dutch Waste Management zullen zich mengen in de discussie op 11 november.

Clean Urban Delta initiative Rio de Janeiro

Al is er nog geen officieel bericht uit Rio de Janeiro, toch zijn er veel ontwikkelingen. Continue gaan er berichten over en weer met artikelen over de uitdagingen in Rio, die op de voet worden gevolgd door de leden van het consortium, waaronder Dutch Waste Management. 

De Wereldbank is intensief betrokken bij het ‘Clean Urban Delta Initiative Rio de Janeiro’.


Het ministerie van BuZa zorgt ervoor dat het op de agenda komt tijdens de missie van Ploumen naar Brazilië. Ook het NOC*NSF zijn bereid het Clean Urban Delta Initiative actief te ondersteunen en aandacht voor het initiatief te vragen. 

De watersportbond is actief betrokken en voert de druk op om daadwerkelijk een duurzame 'schone baai legacy' achter te laten voor Rio. Daarmee leveren ze ook een springplank om vanuit ons consortium een toegevoegde waarde te leveren.

Clean Urban Delta Proposal Rio de Janeiro

In March, a successful factfinding mission to Rio de Janeiro has taken place. Dutch knowledge and innovative technology were presented to support the Brazilians to clean up the Guanabara Bay and further development of the Circular Economy.

After the received positive reactions is then, by Dutch Waste Management, among others, worked hard on an integral Clean Water and Waste proposal (consortium) with detail elaboration of the individual projects.

Presentation of these Dutch innovative and sustainable projects will be in the form of a book. This projects book (proposal) will be presented by a delegation of the consortium to the State Secretary of environment of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Mr André Corrêa at the end of June.

Meanwhile the involved parties are talking about the design of this unique Water  & Waste consortium. Issues such as Intellectual Property, organization, processes, collaboration and communication are being discussed.

Urban Mining

Er zit goud in afval. Het terugwinnen heeft een nieuwe wereldwijde miljardenindustrie gestart, ook wel Urban Mining genoemd. Het lijkt de oplossing voor veel milieuproblemen en energievoorziening. Een ton kapotte mobieltjes, computers of ander elektronisch afval bevat zestig keer zoveel goud als een ton gouderts. Het goud in het elektronische afval is bovendien een stuk makkelijker te oogsten. Geschat wordt dat 30 tot 40% van de wereldvraag naar zeldzame metalen hiermee gedekt kan worden. Urban Mining heeft een andere, bijna hilarische consequentie: jarenlang dumpte men technologisch afval met gesloten ogen in ontwikkelingslanden, waar het werd gerecycled. Maar in Afrika wordt slechts een kwart van de aanwezige hoeveelheden goud, platina en coltan teruggewonnen, terwijl dat bijvoorbeeld met gebruikmaking van de nieuwste technieken in België bijna 99% is. De niet-gouvernementele organisatie 'Closing the Loop' koopt de kapotte mobieltjes en computers, die wij in ontwikkelingslanden gedumpt hebben terug en maakt zo ons afval tot gewild verkoopartikel. Het principe van Urban Mining lijkt de oplossing voor veel milieuproblemen en energievoorziening. Het creëert een nieuwe recycle industrie, verlost men van afval en geeft ontwikkelingslanden onverwacht een verdienmodel.

Governments Going Circular

All over the world, a growing number of companies have started to develop and apply circular business models. Governments have good reasons to act as well: circular economy strengthens the economy by saving on valuable resources, stimulates innovation and offers the promise of millions of new jobs. Given the importance of governmental intervention in establishing a circular economy, we have set out on a journey to identify best practices worldwide. We invite all governments to find inspiration here and add their success stories as well to help promote the transition towards circularity.
In the publication Governments going Circular - Global Scan Best Practices you will find best practices and ideas for circular transition. Dutch Waste Management partners developed some of them already in the Netherlands in the 90's.

Delivery of clean energy project in Bulgaria by partner Djadadji

DWM partner Djadadji, which runs activities in the field of clean energy from its formal base in Bulgaria, has concluded its Staccato project. The objective of the project was to demonstrate the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures on a neighbourhood level. Although it took a good number of years, Arjan Visser, managing director of Djadadji, is proud of the results achieved. He explains that quite some novelties have been reached with the delivery of the project:

·        The work has resulted in the most energy efficient hospital in Bulgaria, at least for each square meter of this very large medical care complex close to the heart of Sofia.

·        For the first time, substantial social research has taken place In a retrofitting project dealing with the opinions and views of tenants/owners before and after the retrofitting ‘Plus’ to their buildings

·        For the first time in Bulgaria, we were able to integrate block level solar thermal system into the district heating network, both for public as residential buildings.

·        The Staccato project has provided numerous inputs to legislation and the promotion of Home Owner’s Associations as key element in the transforming of buildings, neighbourhoods and districts.

·        With the Staccato project, the district of Oborishte has the largest number of retrofitted apartment buildings in Sofia. Further, this community now has the largest number of square meters of solar collectors for the whole of Bulgaria.

·        For the first time, and ESCO approach was introduced in Bulgaria for residential buildings, but that did not work (well, in 2008) . As follow up, Staccato partners work on introducing new energy services for buildings.

·        This demonstration site in Sofia, was the most eastward located in any of the Concerto projects (where sites in Western Europe dominated).

·        For the first time, a hospital uses solar power as back-up system or UPS (Un-interrupted Power System).

Apart from the results and such novelties, we have created different tools to promote these results and innovative approaches. Further, we actively promote the use of the robust design for a common solar thermal system for residential buildings in Bulgaria, specific for local (climatological and building) conditions.
